About Ivan Lindsay, author of “The History of Loot an Stolen Art”

Ivan Lindsay is an art dealer and writer. He was educated at Eton College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). He spent four years in the British Army as an infantry officer in the Scots Guards in Southeast Asia. On leaving the army in 1985 he worked for five years in the Insurance industry in London and Australia. He formed Lindsay Fine Art in London in 1990 to deal in Old Master Paintings. The business was incorporated in 1996 and expanded into Russian paintings in 2004 and Russian sculpture in 2009.

Lindsay also writes and lectures on art and the art world. He was the art writer and a contributing editor at Spears WMS magazine from 2008 – 2014 and has also written for The Guardian, Millionaire magazine, CountryandTownhouse, Hermitage, The Art Journal and Gstaad Life. He has given radio interviews on Jewish Radio and Monacle24. This book, ‘The History of Loot and Stolen art’ was first conceived as a lecture entitled “Envy – Art Theft through the ages” given by Lindsay at the Mensa Conference at Magdalene College Cambridge University in 2008.
